Biography

Russell Bedsole is a native of Montgomery, AL where at an early age he can remember playing on the steps of the state capital. On countless fieldtrips to the statehouse, Russell can recall his fascination with the legislative process. As a youth, Russell served on numerous mock law making sessions, which strengthened his desire to one day serve in a role such as this.

Russell enjoys serving those around him. He just completed serving 3 terms as President of the Shelby County Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. Under his leadership Lodge 41 saw an aggressive growth in membership that has not been seen in sometime.

Education & Experience

Shortly after receiving his bachelor's degree from Auburn University, Russell moved to Shelby County. In December of 1999 Russell began his career with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Russell has moved through the ranks and has served as a Patrolman, K-9 handler, Field Training Officer, and Criminal Investigator. In 2002 Russell was honored to receive the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award from the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Russell is currently serving as a sergeant assigned to the Administrative Division. In this assignment Russell works closely with the administrative staff on many crucial responsibilities including supervising the Records, Civil, and Communications Divisions. Russell also works closely with public relations and hiring.

Family

In 2003 Russell married Thompson graduate, Dena Dixon. Shortly after their marriage, Russell returned to school, and in 2005 he was awarded with a Master of Science in Public Administration from Troy University. Russell and Dena began their family in 2008 and moved to Alabaster.

Russell is now the proud father of son Brooks and daughter Willa. Russell has returned to his roots, and can be found coaching his son on the baseball diamond just as his Dad did when Russell was a youth.

Russell and his family are members of Alabaster's Westwood Baptist Church. Russell has served in a leadership role of a young single's small group, and he can also be found serving on Westwood's security safety team.

Russell believes the best days of Alabaster are still before us and he and his family are proud to call Alabaster home.
