EMPOWER (Everyone is Motivated by Positive Opportunities When
Experiencing Recreation) is a Therapeutic Recreation program offered
through the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department for individuals in
Shelby County with mental and/or physical disabilities.
Programs are designed to meet the following goals:
Independence - Gain skills and experiences that increase one's self esteem, judgment and abilities.
Life Skills - Increase money management, problem solving and decision making skills through various community outings.
Physical - Develop maximum physical abilities through participation in individual and team recreation.
Social - Increase appropriate socialization skills and foster friendships.
All programs are designed and supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Participation in Our Programs - It's Your Choice
Inclusive recreation programs - some individuals with disabilities prefer to participate in the traditional recreation programs we offer. Our staff will assist in determining the most effective means of inclusion support for individuals to participate in a program.
