Library Information


To obtain a library card, simply ask for a form at the library and fill it out. You need to bring valid identification with your current address, such as a driver's license or a utility bill.

Applications for individuals under 18 years of age must be returned by a parent or guardian to verify parental consent.

Residents & Nonresidents

There is no charge for Shelby County residents. Nonresidents must pay an annual fee of $30 for a library card. The nonresident fee is waived for those who work or attend school in the county.

Borrowing Privileges

Selected materials must be presented at the Circulation Desk for check out. A printout indicating the due date of the materials will be given to you.

Overdue Item Fines

Fines for overdue items from the Albert L. Scott Library are:
  • Books, magazines, audiobooks, music CDs: $0.10 per day
  • DVDs: $2 per day

Your Library Card

  • When you sign up for a library card, you will be given a wallet-sized card as well as a key chain card.
  • You may use either card to check out materials from any public library in Shelby County.
  • You must present your card or a government issued photo ID in order to check out materials or use the internet computers.
  • There is a $3 charge for replacement cards.
