Title: City Councilor of Ward 6


Biography

Jamia A. James was elected to represent Ward 6 in 2025. Jamia and her family have been residents of for more than 20 years. For many years, she has been actively involved in serving our community through the School Board, the Angel Warriors Foundation, Alabaster Sports and Entertainment Foundation and various other boards and initiatives.  


Education and Experience

She was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and attended Robert E. Lee High School

She graduated from Alabama A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. She currently works for Fidelity Information Systems as a Senior Systems Engineer.

Jamia served on the Alabaster City School Board 2018-2023

Jamia is a  member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. , Coordinator for the Special Needs Children’s area at the Alabaster Health Fair 8 years,  a member of the Alabaster Arts Council, Alabaster Board of Zoning Adjustments, Shelby County Board of Equalization, Project Outreach (Thompson High School ;helped establish the program), Alabaster Public Building Authority, the Alabaster City Schools Summer Feeding Program, and the Sowers of Seeds Organization. 

Beyond leadership roles in the community, I have devoted my time and my heart to helping our children/adults with special needs and their families in our city through sensory friendly activities.


Family

Jamia is married to Rodrick James also native of Montgomery. She is the proud mom of 3 (Jabari, Victoria and Jade. All 3 are graduates of Thompson High School. Jabari graduated in 2016, Victoria in 2021 and Jade in 2023.She is a proud bonus mom of 4 (Rodriquez, JaKobi, Josh and Chasity) and a proud bonus Nana to 3 (Major, Ava and Asher).
