Living in Alabaster
Alabaster is a sprawling Suburban city located in the Heart of Alabama. Situated just 17 Miles south of Downtown Birmingham, Alabaster is a convenient place to do business and a wonderful place to raise a family. We are committed to a safe, healthy, and wholesome environment for family living. Alabaster has experienced remarkable growth over the last ten years with a growth rate of well over 60%. Those rates figure to continue to make Alabaster one of the state's largest cities and, also, one of its fastest growing.
Propst Promenade & Colonial Promenade South
The City of Alabaster is home to over 300,000 square feet of retail space, much of which is located at the Propst Promenade and Colonial Promenade South just off the 238 exit on I-65. The Propst Promenade offers many specialty stores as well as a Walmart Super Center, Bed Bath and Beyond and Belk Department Store. You will also find a variety of restaurants and financial institutions. The Colonial Promenade South offers Best Buy, JC Penney, Target, Pet Smart, Panera Bread and much more. Plan a "date night" or take the kids to see a movie at The Amstar Movie Theater also located in the Propst Promenade.
The City of Alabaster hosts one of the largest annual public gatherings in Shelby County. CityFest, which was started to celebrate Alabaster's 50th birthday in 2003, has grown into one of the most popular celebrations in our area. With thousands of visitors attending the celebration, CityFest features live music, a large children's area with games, rides and other fun activities. Many vendors also set up during the celebration to sell merchandise and food items. This annual event is sponsored by the City of Alabaster and several corporate donors in the community. The Alabaster Arts Council heads up this excellent, family-friendly event. It is held at Municipal Park on the 1st Saturday in June.
First Class Medical Services
The City of Alabaster is fortunate to have Shelby County's largest medical facility located in the heart of downtown. The Shelby Baptist Medical Center, which has 24 hour medical service, has grown along with the community over the years. In addition to the many other services the hospital provides, it recently marked a milestone with the opening of a new cancer treatment center and the performance of open heart surgeries. The hospital has become a medical hub for the tri-county area with an increasing number of patients from Shelby, Chilton and Bibb Counties.
